Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days Exceeds All Expectations!

Summer is always the most challenging time of year for the Arizona Humane Society. As breeding season begins, our team swings into action to make sure pets in need have a safe haven and a chance to find a loving family. Thanks to the wonderful support of Maddie’s Fund and their Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days event on May 31 and June 1, the weekend was one full of miracles and happy endings.   The nationwide free adoption event attracted hundreds of families and resulted in an astounding 1,993 pet adoptions across the Valley. Of those, 487 were AHS cats and dogs (plus 20 critters). May 31 alone saw 327 adoptions, easily breaking the single-day adoption record of 233 set in November 2009. That is two pets adopted every three minutes! An additional 51 pets with special needs found new foster homes with volunteers ready to offer that extra bit of TLC to help prepare them for adoption.   Monday carried a relaxing calm at our campuses as nearly every kennel was empty, each one representing another success story. A beautiful sight like this just wouldn’t be possible without the outpouring of love from the community and groups like Maddie’s Fund. From the bottom of our hearts, everyone at AHS thanks you for your kindness.   However, AHS is not resting on its laurels. Open kennels mean there are that many more spots available for other pets in need here in the Valley. Help us keep our mission going strong by opening your own home to a needy pet or giving the gift of a donation to support our many programs.   If you didn’t have a chance to adopt this weekend, there are still some amazing pets who need loving homes.
