Meet one of our success stories, Leia! Katherine and her family came down to our Sunnyslope Campus specifically looking for Leia and instantly fell in love. Now, several months later, Katherine tells us the wonderful impact this beautiful, sweet girl has had on her family since adopting.
She was a Pirate for Halloween (one of the girls at your Sunnyslope office suggested the costume idea when we adopted Leia). She’s been doing really well. We finally managed to convince her she was in her forever home. In the beginning, she was wearing herself out trying to please us. She’s still super sweet and loves everyone she meets and is a good hostess when we have family get-togethers. She loved Halloween and was greeting all of the kids at the door. She seemed to be familiar with the concept of Halloween and the steady stream of trick-or-treaters. In our immediate family, she makes each one of us feel like we are her, “favorite.”
My 21-year-old son recently moved back to Arizona and she fell madly in love with him the first time they met. And, we are still taking her for late night walks so she doesn’t have to be around any other dogs. She also has become a good ambassador for one-eyed dogs. Little kids are fascinated with her missing eye and will plop down on our floor and study her missing eye socket. It’s funny to watch because I haven’t met a single kid who didn’t think her missing eye wasn’t interesting. Hopefully these children will grow up to remember that a friend/neighbor had a one-eyed dog that was a “cool” dog and not an ugly or scary thing. Leia, in all honesty, really is the best dog we’ve ever owned. Just last week, my husband was saying what a great dog she is and what a great little personality she has. My husband is a man of few words, so that was high praise indeed! I can’t thank you guys enough for taking such good care of her before we adopted her.
