One of Arizona's premier medical-research groups would like a bit of your dog's drool. TGen, the Translational Genomics Research Institute, is conducting a study of the molecular underpinnings of the fungus that causes valley fever in dogs as a possible precursor to studying the illness in humans. The Phoenix research group recently teamed up with the Arizona Humane Society to promote the study and garner more canine saliva samples.
